Help The Kunkles and The Weatherly Country Inn Raise Money To Fight Type 1 Diabetes

Last June, Judi Kunkle and her family were all stunned when her 11 year old daughter, Lily, slipped into a coma and was then diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Lily luckily came out of the coma and survived, but is now forced to face this disease everyday.

Wanting to help her daughter, Judi relentlessly researched Type 1 Diabetes and found out that Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes are often mistakenly thought to be the same. While Type 1 is a disease that attacks insulin, a hormone that helps the body digest sugar, Type 2 is a disorder where the body doesn’t use insulin correctly. Judi also discovered that many parents of children with Type 1 didn’t know what was happening when they started showing symptoms. With this being such a common misconception and with so many people not getting the proper facts, Judi knew she needed to spread awareness to save lives.

Judi and her husband Brian, own the Weatherly Country Inn in Weatherly, PA a local hotspot known for its delicious food and famous wing nights! They knew that their customers would want to help! Judi and Brian approached us with their mission to spread awareness and raise money through a custom t-shirt sale. Inspired by their passion and their cause, we jumped at the chance to help. They started their fundraiser in the spring with all proceeds going to Dr. Denise Faustman, at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Faustman is working on a vaccine that stops the body from attacking its own insulin cells, effectively curing the disease. You can read more about Dr. Faustman in Time Magazine.

The Kunkle’s have already raised $600 in their first fundraiser. They’ll be selling more t-shirts soon, so keep your eyes open for their next sales this summer and fall. Their sales are open to the public and can be bought by anyone who’d like to support the cure for Type 1 Diabetes and spread awareness.

Thank you to the Kunkle Family for allowing us to help you. If you want to learn more about the Weatherly Country Inn and the Kunkle’s efforts to fight Type 1 Diabetes, check out their Facebook page here.
