Last June, Judi Kunkle and her family were all stunned when her 11 year old daughter, Lily, slipped into a coma and was then diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Lily luckily came out of the coma and survived, but is now forced to face this disease everyday.
Wanting to help her daughter, Judi relentlessly researched Type 1 Diabetes and found out that Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes are often mistakenly thought to be the same. While Type 1 is a disease that attacks insulin, a hormone that helps the body digest sugar, Type 2 is a disorder where the body doesn’t use insulin correctly. Judi also discovered that many parents of children with Type 1 didn’t know what was happening when they started showing symptoms. With this being such a common misconception and with so many people not getting the proper facts, Judi knew she needed to spread awareness to save lives.
